The Asryn were a magocratic society that excelled in every form of magic. Under their rule, the mass-production of magic items reached unprecedented heights. Expendable magic items became more common, as it was now economical to purchase devices whose enchantments had only a limited duration of use. Prior to the Asryn, and in most cultures following the Asryn, the economics of magic item production depended on the assumption that a magic item would outlive its owner, allowing magic to accumulate over multiple generations. The Asryn were the first society to break this assumption, creating a "throwaway magic" culture.
The Asryn were also noted for their support for arts and culture. Sculpture, painting, architecture, plays, and other forms of decoration and entertainment reached their peak during the Asryn era. They were also noted for their support for non-magical learning, and many prestigious academies can trace their roots to Asryn scholarship.
Because the Asryn had such excellent access to expendable magic items, they tended to develop a military that took advantage of this. The Asryn armies contained unusually large numbers of golems, spellcannon, and wingknights. The turret golem was extensively popularized by the Asryn, as it provided both a mobile construct and ranged spell support.
Due to their widespread cultural influence, the Asryn language has become the effective lingua franca of the Locus.
